Earlier in the year we reported that Arnold Schwarzenegger, newly returned to acting after a years long hiatus, had been cast in intimate zombie drama "Maggie", playing the father of a young girl who is bitten and slowly degenerates into a member of the undead.
He's an interesting cast choice for what is essentially a very poignant and dramatic role; the grieving father forced to watch as his child succumbs to a terminal condition that will ultimately threaten his entire family, but I suppose it can't all be mini-guns and helicopter crashes.
Wireless has now learned that 17 year old Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine, Zombieland) has entered talks to play opposite Arnie as the titular Maggie.
Initially it was thought that Chloe Moretz (Kick Ass, 500 Days of Summer) might be the American girl with the Austrian Dad, but she's since moved on and now it's Breslin's day in the sun (shine).
Maggie takes place during a zombie apocalypse, just like every other film released in the last 10 years, but unlike the massively sprawling World War Z it will minimize the focus to just one family as they attempt to come to terms with the gradual loss of their daughter. Think less Dawn of the Dead and more My Sister's Keeper.
The movie is written by the annoyingly yet somehow awesomely named John Scott 3, and was entered into the Hollywood Blacklist back in 2011 (the Blacklist is where amazing scripts that haven't been picked up by a studio go. Zombieland was on there as well) and will be directed by new comer Henry Hobson.
Production is due to begin towards the back of this year for a 2014 release.
