Ever since Emo-Frankenstein's monster Matt Smith announced he was leaving his bowtie on the TARDIS console and escaping out the backdoor of the Doctor Who franchise (he's leaving...) the speculation amongst Inter-nerds has been rampant.
There was the usual talk of a black Doctor or a female Doctor or a black female Doctor who was also a fiercely independent woman who paid her Automo-bill. Once that died down the rumour was that Skyfall actor Rory Kinnear had been offered the gig. He denied it strenuously, as did Doctor Who show runner and head writer Steven Moffat, who continued with his "We haven't decided yet." party line.
Then it all sort of petered out and we naturally assumed we'd have to wait until the regeneration, when Matt Smith's 11th Doctor transforms into this new mystery 12th Doctor, which is schedule to occur during the 50th Anniversary Special in November.
HOWEVER... the BBC have announced today that they will be revealing the identity of the new Doctor this weekend, Sunday to be precise... at 7pm to be even more precise, in a live show on BBC One hosted by 90's kids TV presenter and radio Fraggle Zoe Ball.
As well as the new Doctor, there'll also be past Doctors and companions on hand to discuss what it's like working in and around the TARDIS, plus a potted history of the show's 5 decades on British TV.
So that's BBC One, 7pm, Sunday the 4th of August.
