An entrepreneur in Turkey has opened what might be the first
online ‘halal’ sex shop. According to Reuters, Haluk Murat Demirel was inspired
to create the adult store when he realised that most were ‘too explicit’ for Muslims.
What the shop does offer is lubricants, herbal aphrodisiacs and
advice on how to have ‘halal’ sex. Although Turkey has a secular government the
majority of its citizens are Muslim, and sex is a heatedly debated subject. The
website is proving popular however; Demirel claims that the hits are in the
tens of thousands per day.
It’s not the first time that someone has attempted to introduce
ethics to the sex industry; Portland, Oregon has Casa Diablo to boast about,
the world’s first Vegan Strip club.
