Trends For Less: Pleather, Gemstones and Chunky Cut-Outs

Ralph Lauren/ Calvin Klein/ Balenciaga

This week's fashion on a budget has attitude. Pump up the girl power, don these looks and you'll be owning the pavement as though it's the catwalk (or the corridor to the first female president's suite...).

PLASTIC? FANTASTIC!

It is time to turn plastic! We don’t mean the Regina George's only wear sweats on Tuesdays kind, but the PVC throwbacks from the ‘60s! Pleather skirts in edgy black or cute baby pink are big with the  fashion pack right now. Limit yourself to wearing one PVC item at a time to avoid looking like an Ann Summers catalogue.

DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH

Sparkle among the dull crowds this winter with gorgeous embellished tops. Diamonds and gems around the collar create a sophisticated look and add understated glamour. For more flexibility, try set-stone jewellery.

CHUNKY 'N' PUNKY

The chunkier the heel, the better. Another throw back from previous years, chunky shoes are the perfect way to add height while rocking a casual outfit. Go preppy by wearing socks underneath or bare foot (with nude tights, obviously, as this is Britain) for simple chic. It's okay to feel like a towering Spice Girl. Just go with it and rap the middle bit of Wannabe at anyone who does a double take.
