American Psycho TV Series

As a TV exec in the States, when looking at which shows to greenlight, you must go back to the well and remake something that someone already did once and that people already like so that there's no possible way it can fail. If you did something new and original it might not immediately do well, in which case it will be deemed a bomb and you'll lose you job! No no... let's just take a film that people like and buy the rights to that and make it into a TV series OK?

That's why we're looking at Hannibal, Bates Motel, a possible 12 Monkeys series, the already sunk Beverly Hills Cop series and now FX are working on a small screen adaptation of American Psycho, because good God they're terrified of putting a foot even slightly wrong.

Well, bad news FX because this is a terrible idea.

The series will be a sequel, set in the present, some years after Patrick Bateman's murderous exploits (which as you might remember from the original film, he didn't actually commit at all). Bateman is now in his 50's and looking to take on a protege to carry on his good work (which, again,. never really happened).

Sounds like someone is trying to leap into the warm spot that Dexter will soon vacate as quick as they possibly can. Why invent new characters and scenarios when you can just use someone elses' and save yourself all that hassle of having to be creative?

The project is currently in early development and only has a writer attached at present. It is incredibly unlikely that you'll see Christian Bale anywhere near this thing.
