Ethan Couch, 16 from Texas, USA robbed beer from a
local branch of Walmart and he and seven friends jumped in a pickup truck and
left a horrific path of destruction on their drive.
Couch smashed into a woman whose car had broken
down, two people coming to help and a passerby on a road in Burleston, Texas.
Two of the seven passengers were seriously injured in the collision, one was
paralysed and can now only communicate by blinking their eyes.
The punishment for this is usually very lengthy
spell in jail. However, Couch was let go on probation after his defence
diagnosed him with a condition called “affluenza”.
Affluenza essentially means that during Couch’s
upbringing his wealthy parents let the spoilt brat get away with everything. So
now a young adult he has no concept that what he did was bad.
“He never learned that sometimes you don’t get your
way,” Gary Miller, a psychologist assigned to Couch said in court. “He had the
cars and he had the money. He had freedoms that no young man would be able to
handle.”
The victims of the crash. |
He pleaded guilty to four counts of manslaughter by
intoxication and two counts of assault by intoxication causing bodily injury.
Once news
spread of the injustice of the situation people took to Twitter to state their opinions.
