Bury Tomorrow Announce Intimate UK Tour and Third Album Release Date!

Live Review: Calvin Harris & Teisto @ Manchester Arena

For one night only the clubs of Ibiza and the Med came to Manchester’s Phones4U Arena as two of the genre's behemoths took to the decks and stage.

With dance music’s mainstream and commercial appeal skyrocketing in recent years being a good DJ has become big bucks and the visual side of the genre has took off with leaps and bounds. Tonight was a prime example of how rich and rewarding the current dance music scene is. Teisto (the world’s highest paid DJ) and Scottish superstar Calvin Harris bestowed themselves in the fire, lasers and ticker tape of the Phones4U Arena in Manchester to wow a capacity crowd.

Party, drink, rave, sweat, rave, breathe, drink, sweat, drink, rave, rave, rave… That’s the definitive running order of what to do at Prodigy gig. Tonight was of no exception.

Peace: Interview with the Birmingham Indie Band

Following the success of their debut album In Love, Birmingham-based ‘Peace’ have just finished biggest ever headline tour. We got to chat with drummer Dom to see what's next.

Did you expect the amount of success you got from your debut album?

Well we didn’t really expect anything to be honest. We’ve been so busy that we haven’t really had a chance a chance to look back at what we’ve achieved, we’ve just sorta rolled with it.

Have you had any rockstar-esque demands since you’ve signed to a major label?

When we first got signed we asked for a billboard to be put up in Birmingham that had a picture of us on it and the message of just simply ‘what the fuck’ and we actually got it to our surprise. That’s the only thing we’ve asked for really and we got it so maybe we should ask for more stuff? I want to go as Spinal Tap as possible. Start complaining about the quality of champagne and getting helicopters to gigs maybe?

If you had the chance to support a band on an arena tour, who would it be?

Probably Arctic Monkeys. Maybe The Black Keys. I don’t want to step into Muse-type territory really.

If you were to host a money-no-object festival who’d headline?

Well it would be called “DOM’S MAGICAL MYSTERY WEEKEND” and would have Arctic Monkeys on ‘cause who doesn’t love their new album. Elton John the next day because he’s great and we missed him when we were at Bestival. We’d then end with Groove Armada just to add some variety. I’d better start planning then…

What advice do you have for smaller bands trying to break it in the industry?

I don’t really feel like I’m in a space to give advice ‘cause well, we didn’t exactly get lucky but we were very fortunate with how quick everything fell into place. All I can say is that you need to play as much as you can in as many places as you can. You can’t afford to be snobby; you just need a good attitude whether you’re playing to 30 people or 3000 people.

What’s the plan for the next few years?

More of the same I reckon. We’ll keep playing shows and we will have a new record out early next year hopefully.

What can we expect from the new album?

The majority of songs are already written and we’ve already started to work on it. None of it is out there yet really so I could just say anything about its sound at this moment in time. It’s um, very grimey, like early Dizzee Rascal and mainly focusses on the struggles of east-London lads.

(that last bit might be a lie.)

Kanye West Gets a Bollocking From Police Officer

A police officer has criticised Kanye West in an open letter published online.

The rap star made comments comparing himself to officers who put their lives on the line, saying, "'I'm just giving of my body on the stage and putting my life at risk, literally... and I think about it. I think about my family and I’m like, wow, this is like being a police officer or something, in war or something."

Arcade Fire (The Reflektors) Live Review

Arriving by the tram with a Mariachi band in tow, Arcade Fire took to the stage under the guise of ‘The Reflektors’; a pseudonym being used to promote their fourth studio album.

The fans certainly embraced the band’s request for fancy dress or formal wear; ranging from ball gowns and tuxedos, Venetian masks to tigers onesies. Blackpool’s Empress Ballroom was an ideal backdrop, the grandiose setting adding to the sense of occasion.

Is British Punk Really Dead?

In Britain, punk bands don’t seem to be appealing any more. This may be attributed to the fact that in the seventies, people had a lot to rebel against; doing so in the form of music. However, I believe that now would be the perfect time for a punk revival: due to the rise in student fees, the recession in full-swing and inflation at an all-time high. So, can British punk be saved, or should we just leave its rotting corpse to rest?

Evolving from the hard-core scenes in America and Europe, British punk shaped a generation of wild-haired, Dr Marten-wearing, mutineers.

The Prodigy to Perform at Sonisphere 2014

British dance legends The Prodigy have been announced as the third and final headliner at next year’s Sonisphere Festival.

The event that runs from July 4^th-6^th marks the 40^th anniversary of festivals hosted at Knebworth Park in Hertfordshire and also features Metal legends Iron Maiden and Metallica playing on the same British bill for the first time in their long and illustrious careers.

Sonisphere festival; where all the rockers and metalheads gather for a long weekend of music, headbanging and drinking. It’s pretty similar to the awesome Download Festival. They’ve had some of the greatest play, with year after year of fantastic lineup.
