Captain America 2 Will Impact Agents of SHIELD

Somewhat beleaguered Marvel TV vehicle "Agents of SHIELD" might well get one of the kicks up the arse it needs to achieve greatness in the form of a direct connection to Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

It's no secret that Agents of SHIELD hasn't been doing the gangbusters business of every other Marvel property brought to life on a screen, and critics haven't exactly been very kind to the show. The cast in particular, apart from Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, have been in for a right drubbing. If Marvel and parent company Disney want to keep the show going as their Mid-Movie Offering, they need it to be essential viewing.

It's presumably with this in mind that Marvel have decided to better connect the series to it's much more success big screen cousins. They've already announced the "ripple effect" in the series felt by the aftermath of events in Thor 2: The Dark World. No one from Thor will actually be in the show, but the effects of everything that went down will change the landscape for the agents.

Now it's been rumoured that Agents of SHIELD will get another bump from the upcoming Captain America sequel; The Winter Soldier, just in time for the series finale in April next year.

Since Cap 2 revolves entirely around SHIELD, the international peace keeping organisation for which the thawed out super soldier does his super soldiering, it makes perfect sense for the two outfits to collide. Whether that means a direct appearance from Chris Evans as Cap or Anthony Mackie as The Falcon or even one of the villains remains to be seen, but it's a bloody good way to end a series if you're worried it might not get to see a second boxset.

Get yourself acquainted with the show on Channel 4, Friday's at 8pm. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is released April 4th 2014.
