Quick, think of a female Oxford student. Got an image in
your head? Is it by any chance of a quiet, bookish, shy, nerdy girl?
Well,
throw that stereotype right out the window and imagine toned athletes fully
nude instead, because Oxford’s Women’s Rugby team have taken that old
stereotype and stamped all over it in their rugby boots.
Oxford’s Women’s Rugby team have decided, after the success
of the men’s team’s calendar last year, to release a charity calendar this
Christmas. What kind of charity calendar? The only kind of charity calendar any
group ever decides to do; a nudie calendar. Wearing nothing but socks and rugby
boots (and sometimes not even those), the girls of the team have put together
what looks like it’ll probably be a pretty good seller.
The photos themselves are actually pretty tasteful; artistic
black and whites, some of them using interesting angles, all of them with
everything essential covered by either angles, hands or other teammates. As you
can see; they’re pretty good shots.
The girls say they’re celebrating women’s bodies, encouraging
women to embrace themselves, blah blah, the same words any girl ever says when
she takes off her clothes and lets people take pictures. I love how girls feel
they have to justify anything vaguely controversial. It always has to be for a
cause, and that cause is almost always just to “make other girls feel good
about themselves”. You don’t have to justify it ladies; you can tell us the
truth; the men did it last year, it looked like a laugh, so you wanted a go. That’s
it.
But whatever your opinion, if you want to buy one, they’re
selling them at an upcoming match, or at Walter’s in Oxford. Or you can buy one
