Idiot spends £1000 in Nandos trying to win a Closed Competition

Sometimes we all go a little bit over the top trying to win competitions, either because we really want the prize, or because we just really like winning.

I once bought 70% of all the tickets in a tombola to win an Easter egg. Not a good one, just your ordinary Easter egg. I was a kid, and it totally worked, so be quiet. The point is, we all get carried away from time to time, and from that perspective Christopher Poole behaved just like anyone would with his attempts to win a Nando’s black card.

Cheeky Edinburgh Students Bring in The New Year With YMCA Light Show

This is how to bring in the new year. Check out these four Edinburgh students putting on a light show to the YMCA.

Interview with Danny Wallace

Not many people can say they appear on the ‘Best of Loose Women’ DVD, have accidentally became the face of a new religious holiday, or are responsible for a Hollywood film. But Danny Wallace can.

The Dundee born writer moved around a lot as a child because of his dad’s job, but this is something that he says had a positive impact on him: “it kind of feels natural to me to walk into a room and just start talking to people, so going on adventures isn’t very intimidating.” This is also a characteristic he says is shared by his son: “I watch my kid now and he walks up to strangers and immediately starts a conversation with them about something that smells of mints.”

Manic Couponer buys £572.16 worth of Food for 4p.

Everybody makes use of a coupon from time to time to save the pennies. Actually, that’s not true, a lot of people can’t be bothered with them because they can be really irritating, and is it really worth it to save thirty pence? Sure, some people make a bit of a saving, but no-one’s ever saved anything really noteworthy by couponing.

Sometimes on TV shows there’ll be a gag about major savings couponing; for example in 2 Broke Girls, Caroline gets carried away with couponing and actually manages to sort her coupons to the extent the store owes her money for her shopping. Which is fabulous, but completely impossible. Or maybe not, as Jordan Cox, a student, recently proved.

Armed with 470 coupons he’d scoured from the internet and magazines, he hit up his local Tesco. Armed with three trolleys, he filled them all, before rolling up to what would be the longest checkout experience known to man. I actually feel really bad for the person who had to deal with all those coupons; it took over an hour to go through them all at the checkout. But clearly worth it, as the total of his shopping should have been £572.16, but after coupon upon coupon it totalled only FOUR PENCE. That’s a saving of £572.12. This whole experience probably took about three hours, so one way you could look at this, is that it’s kind of like he made £191/hour, which is awesome.

Not finished with being awesome yet however, Jordan then donated all of his purchases to families in need through the charity, Doorstep. Knowing that a 1000th of the UK population can’t afford to eat this Christmas, he wanted to help. And also a little bit prove just how cheaply you can shop. It’s genius, and it’s genuinely going to help people. Although I do have to question the abundance of squirty cream in the picture. There’s like half a trolley of the stuff. It’s great, it’s noble and all that, but the squirty cream part does seem a little… ridiculous. Still, an incredibly impressive feat. Hats off to you Jordan Cox.

Facebook Considering ‘Sympathise’ Button

I guess we’ve all had to ‘like’ someone’s saddening post on Facebook at some point, just to offer a bit of support. Though when someone delivers bad news to their online brethren ‘liking’ the post seems a little incongruous, wouldn’t you agree?

Britain’s Horniest Student to Face Disciplinary Action

Back in November, as I’m sure you remember, ShagAtUni crowned the “UK’s horniest student”. Taking this prize was Elina Desaine, a Computer Science student at Exeter University, who allegedly has more sex than most Computer Science students have in, well, ever.

Brian's Back

In news that sent waves of sadness and horror throughout the, some say too-attached, fans of Family Guy, Brian Griffin was killed off in a recent episode.

And not killed in the usual way a cartoon kills someone and then brings them back to life by the end of the episode. Killed killed. Like properly dead. People were devastated, even here in the UK where we technically shouldn’t know about it yet, as this happened during season twelve and we’re still only airing season eleven. But given that a) we stream everything 100% legally (or the opposite) online, and b) the clip obviously went viral, this is already old news even here.

But new news now breaking; Brian is coming back (allegedly). He’s rumoured to be in the Christmas episode! And likely as the result of a hair-brained yet somehow brilliantly effective plan of Stewie’s. So not even in an exciting or original way; just in the same way most crazy stunts in the show involving Brian happen.

This has of course resulted in a backlash of people slamming the makers of Family Guy as this isn’t the huge game-changing stunt we thought it would be. By bringing Brian back, they’ve reduced the greatness and originality of that concept right down to a trick publicity stunt. We don’t want that, that’s all anyone does anymore; we want something actually revolutionary like killing Brian off for good would have been.

The execution could of course be amusing, although I imagine the episode’s main jokes will involve tension between Brian and the new family dog Vinnie. And that’s unlikely to play out any differently than the two or three other times they’ve introduced a new dog to the Griffin household. So it will probably be a fairly lacklustre episode, except of course for the joy that Brian’s return will bring.

There is actually speculation that this resurrection is a result of fan petitions, as nothing is allowed to change on tv anymore unless a petition was involved (see: Katie Hopkins on ITV). But given the timing, this does seem an awful lot more like this was the plan all along. And whilst it’s genius in that it’s got them tons of press, not all of it is positive press. Although they are in their twelfth season now, I suppose they must be starting to run out of good ideas by now.

Competition Winners November - Amazon, Rekorderlig & Chiquitos

November was a great month for winning stuff here at Wireless magazine.

Christmas Tinner; Christmas Dinner in a Can for Serious Gamers

It’s December and that means it’s nearly Christmas. And that means one thing and one thing only. Every other company will be bringing out some kind of novelty Christmas product.

Most of them will be half-arsed or simply an existing product with a snowman scrawled on the front. But a few will be original, hilarious, even actually worth buying (although you may find a lot of the half-arsed ones in your stocking or Secret Santa gifts).

3D Printed Pizza

3D printers have been cropping up on the news all year. We’ve had 3D printed plastic guns (that fall apart after a few shots), more recently we’ve had 3D printed metal guns. Now, we’ve got 3D printed pizza.

Created by Natural Machines, a company in Barcelona who are currently developing a 3D food printer called the Foodini. This could lead to some great, innovative food creations, simplification of complex food constructions, or some very terrible, terrible food.

Genius Landlady Tents Up Boozers

Lizzie Jennings is the landlady of The Drum and Monkey pub near Upton-upon-Severn in Worcestershire. Lizzie Jennings is a brilliant, brilliant woman.

So what makes Lizzie Jennings and The Drum and Monkey special? Well. The Drum and Monkey is your typical pub with a nice garden. But they’ve cleared away all of their garden furniture to make room for six large tents and a porta-potty. Why have they put those there? For their patrons.

Sussex Uni Students Prank Spencer Matthews with STI Clinic Call

A student from the University of Sussex recently made this prank call to Made in Chelsea reality TV.....erm... star?!

Stoner Students Turn Parachute Into Pot Den

What do you do on a slow afternoon at college? Go to the library? Watch a movie? Smoke a butt tonne of weed under a colourful parachute and hotbox with 50 of your mates? Yeah, that sounds about right.

Some enterprising American students have come up with a novel way of utilising those big colourful parachutes you used to play with at school with your classmates. They essentially turned it into an outdoor pot den.

Facebook: Enough of the Internship Post-boasts

When did my newsfeed become my nightmare? A place where all my insecurities and failures and late night feelings of being just not good enough could harmonise in blinking black and white.

University acceptance letters: that’s when it started. While my UCAS screen slammed me with a stony white silence, others capitalised and emoticoned their overwhelming joy at getting that place here, that place there. I waded nobly through this sea of embittered likes and exclamation marks (pressed like myself) and hit refresh on UCAS. Acceptance letters: acceptance likes.

Diamond Strong Condoms To Help Stop The Spread of HIV

Scientists have developed a new type of condom which has the potential to prevent the spread of HIV.

Researchers at the University of Manchester have been developing a new "wonder material", said to have "limitless potential"; and that's not just what she says when he's wearing it! Graphene is being used to develop condoms that are thinner, safer, and more enjoyable to use.

Cardiff University Football Team Banned after 'How to Sleep With Low Self-esteem Women' Presentation

A couple of weeks after Aberystwyth University cricket team were banned from competing due to a member wearing a t-shirt with the slogan “casual rape”, it is now the turn of another Welsh university’s sporting team to face punishment for sexist acts.

The Cardiff University Football Club have been given a two week ban, from training and playing matches, after a PowerPoint presentation was given by a member of the club on “how to sleep with women who have low self-esteem” whilst also allegedly joking about date-rape and domestic violence.

Clubbers Posing for a Video They Think Is Just Still Photos

Ever wondered how your mates always seem to have great facebook pictures when you just always look like a sweaty mess?

Well it would appear that a lot of effort goes into exhibiting that perfect moment of jubilation while still looking decent for the picture. These Dublin clubbers are so aware of how they will appear the next day on social media that they are willing to hold some hilarious poses. One slight problem though..... it's video and they don't know it.
