Genius Landlady Tents Up Boozers

Lizzie Jennings is the landlady of The Drum and Monkey pub near Upton-upon-Severn in Worcestershire. Lizzie Jennings is a brilliant, brilliant woman.

So what makes Lizzie Jennings and The Drum and Monkey special? Well. The Drum and Monkey is your typical pub with a nice garden. But they’ve cleared away all of their garden furniture to make room for six large tents and a porta-potty. Why have they put those there? For their patrons.

The band said: “We are delighted to be playing T in the Park and look forward to a great night with our Scottish fans.”

This year’s glorious 20th year celebrations were widely hailed as the best T in the Parkever, and Arctic Monkeys are the first headliners – and the first act – to be announced for next year’s festival which will take place over 11th – 13th July 2014.

Since Arctic Monkeys burst on to the scene with their record-breaking, Mercury Music Prize-winning debut album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, the band have seen all five of their studio albums hit the no.1 spot. Their unstoppable career reached stratospheric new heights this year with the release of the universally acclaimed AM, which was hailed by critics as their finest album to date.

Geoff Ellis, Festival Director, said: “We’re thrilled to announce Arctic Monkeys as our first headliners for T in the Park 2014. After this year’s fantastic 20th year celebrations, we asked our audience who they’d like to see at next year’s festival and Arctic Monkeys came top of the poll, so we’re really pleased to be able to confirm them for T in the Park. When they take to the stage in Glasgow this week they’ll prove exactly why they’re one of the greatest live acts around, and I’m sure we can look forward to another phenomenal set at T in the Park. We have many more fantastic acts in store which we’ll announce next year, and can’t wait to see you all again in July.”

George Kyle, Head of Sponsorship, Tennent’s Lager, said: “This year’s T in the Park was one of the best ever, and I’m sure we have another wonderful weekend in store next July – Arctic Monkeys will put on a phenomenal show. As founding partner, Tennent’s have been the T in T in the Park since the very beginning and we’re exceptionally proud to still be a part of this incredible festival as it enters into its third decade.”

The announcement comes just before the band are set to take to the stage in Glasgow for a sold out show. With tickets for that gig in huge demand, fans will have another chance to catch them live in Scotland when they return in July to headline T in the Park. LAST CHANCE TO BUY TICKETS FOR FIGURE 8 FESTIVAL 2013‏

It’s just a few weeks until this year’s Figure 8 Festival, a new music festival for Bristol, which aims to raise £5,000 for charity.

Figure 8 Festival 2013 takes place at The Birdcage, Bristol, on Friday September 27 and Trinity Centre on Saturday September 28. It is headlined by Britpop trio Dodgy, famous for the hit songs ‘Staying Out For The Summer’, ‘If You’re Thinkin Of Me’ and ‘Good Enough’.

Wireless talks Leeds and Reading Fest 2013 with Melvin Benn

With Leeds and Reading Festivals fast approaching, Wireless Magazine caught up with Melvin Benn, the Managing Director of Festival Republic to talk music, marketing and glorious sunshine.

How do you feel about this years line up? Since the festival has become more popular is there an increased demand for a greater variety of genres?

What to Expect from Reading and Leeds 2013

Boasting what is arguably its best line-up to date (which might explain why Reading weekend tickets have already sold out and Leeds not far behind) the UK’s most loved festival is back and bigger than ever. With headliners Eminem, Biffy Clyro and Green Day you cannot complain about there being diversity between acts, but if these big names don’t really float your boat then there’s still a whole host of other acts on offer over what’s pushing close to 10 stages per site. Wireless will try and summerize in 1000 words or less who you should not miss out on! (Disclaimer; we won’t really be talking much about the headliners because everyone who’s anyone knows about them!)

Going Solo to Hideout Festival

The journey to Hideout was especially long on my own, I arrived Monday and two men who must have felt sorry for me and put my tent up for me.

Skint and Sober at Glastonbury

Glastonbury hit Somerset with an orgy of music, dancing and more wellies than you could shake a makeshift flag at. But as the crowded masses were getting plastered off warm beer and necking enough illegal substances to turn the stage lights into an otherworldly spectacular, I was left stone cold sober.

Being completely drug and drink free, not to mention having a budget that wouldn’t buy you more than a couple microwaved pies from one of the many questionable food vans on offer, really changes the face of a big music festivals.

Wiley Wins Hearts and Minds in Cumbria

I am proud of where I'm from, I fucking love where I am from. It’s a county called Cumbria, which is better known to a lot of people as The Lakes.

In my little, beautiful, county we have a festival which is called 'Cock Rock' which is short for Cockermouth rock festival. Get it, Cock Rock? It's meant to be funny. Any way, moving on, this festival is a non profit organisation raising money for two charities based in Cumbria, 'The pride of Cumbria Air Ambulance' and 'the Cockermouth Mountain Rescue'. Since this festival started 9 years ago it has expanded loads starting with local acts and over the past few years having such artists as Funeral For a Friend, Lower Than Atlantis, The King Blues and this year Kids in Glass Houses and, unfortunately, Wiley.
