Fake Tweet of Fresh Prince Tribute Episode Confuses Fans

We’re going to start off with some sad news which you may well have heard by now. James Avery, or Uncle Phil from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, has recently died. This has obviously caused sadness for fans and former cast members alike. Or, for one chap, an opportunity for pranks.

In light of this death, a tweet supposedly from Will Smith came out suggesting that the whole cast get together for a reunion episode in tribute to Uncle Phil. Sounds lovely, as fans agreed. They were fully in support of the idea, and showed this support by instantly retweeting as soon as our alleged Will Smith tweeted again, this time stating that he’d talked to NBC who’d told him he needed 300,000 retweets to make it happen.

He even went to the trouble of setting up a fake screenshot of that conversation. To be honest, I’m just impressed he bothered to get the right network, although I still think the story would run exactly the same even if he’d got it wrong.

And those retweets came flooding in, because fans believed that that’s exactly how TV channels work. They also believed that someone tweeting as @Freshprincewill could be the real deal, as Will Smith has clearly done nothing of note since Fresh Prince. Twitter really does bring the smart people into the limelight.

Even as recent as this morning, searching on Twitter will reveal that not everyone has grasped the fact that it’s a fake; you can still see them retweeting with hope for a new episode. Although most of the tweets are now coming in as announcements of the fact that it was a fake, as if it was somehow shocking.

British Comedy Awards; Winners and Losers Who Won

Thursday night was the Foster sponsored British Comedy Awards, and Wireless sent me along to have a bloody look and try to get near some comedians.

The star-studded event, organised by Avalon Entertainment, was broadcast live on Channel 4 and also to three 42" plasma screens in the press pen, where I was, where we were when Johnny Vegas went mental and said about the smartest thing anyone has for a while.

Brian's Back

In news that sent waves of sadness and horror throughout the, some say too-attached, fans of Family Guy, Brian Griffin was killed off in a recent episode.

And not killed in the usual way a cartoon kills someone and then brings them back to life by the end of the episode. Killed killed. Like properly dead. People were devastated, even here in the UK where we technically shouldn’t know about it yet, as this happened during season twelve and we’re still only airing season eleven. But given that a) we stream everything 100% legally (or the opposite) online, and b) the clip obviously went viral, this is already old news even here.

But new news now breaking; Brian is coming back (allegedly). He’s rumoured to be in the Christmas episode! And likely as the result of a hair-brained yet somehow brilliantly effective plan of Stewie’s. So not even in an exciting or original way; just in the same way most crazy stunts in the show involving Brian happen.

This has of course resulted in a backlash of people slamming the makers of Family Guy as this isn’t the huge game-changing stunt we thought it would be. By bringing Brian back, they’ve reduced the greatness and originality of that concept right down to a trick publicity stunt. We don’t want that, that’s all anyone does anymore; we want something actually revolutionary like killing Brian off for good would have been.

The execution could of course be amusing, although I imagine the episode’s main jokes will involve tension between Brian and the new family dog Vinnie. And that’s unlikely to play out any differently than the two or three other times they’ve introduced a new dog to the Griffin household. So it will probably be a fairly lacklustre episode, except of course for the joy that Brian’s return will bring.

There is actually speculation that this resurrection is a result of fan petitions, as nothing is allowed to change on tv anymore unless a petition was involved (see: Katie Hopkins on ITV). But given the timing, this does seem an awful lot more like this was the plan all along. And whilst it’s genius in that it’s got them tons of press, not all of it is positive press. Although they are in their twelfth season now, I suppose they must be starting to run out of good ideas by now.

Teen Runs Up £1158 Phone Bill By Voting On TV Show

If Joey Essex has proven anything, it’s that a lot of the people that get involved with ITV’s ratings-buster I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! aren’t particularly intelligent. Nevermind what has to be the most inappropriate use of the term “celebrity” of all time.

How I Met Your Father to Replace HIMYM

Hands up who watches How I Met Your Mother? That looks like pretty much most of you. I’m sure you’ve all heard by now that we’re in the 9th and final season. The drawn out build up to Robin and Barney’s wedding is in full force, interspersed with brief appearances by the woman we now know is the mother. Eventually Ted will meet her, they’ll fall in love, live happily ever after, the series will end, and we’ll all have to find something else to watch.

Watch The Night of the Doctor Prequel Episode

The 50 Anniversary of Doctor Who is fast approaching, with the multimillion pound special set to air at some time on Saturday next week (23rd of November). It marks the first appearance of two Doctors in one episode of the modern era series, and the trailer for it alone cost £1300+ per second.

The BBC are putting all their eggs into this basket it seems, and to further ramp up the excitement and tension and delight they've released a prequel episode to "Day of the Doctor", titled "Night of the Doctor."

Porn Star Used In BBC McCann Reconstruction

Crimewatch reveals porn star acted in McCann abduction reconstruction, gaining it largest ever audience of 6.7 million.

More than 7.3 million people watched Mark Sloans’ empathetic portrayal of Dr Matt Oldfield, a friend of Kate and Gerry McCann, whose daughter Madeline was abducted from her Portugese hotel room in 2007. But how many of them knew that the 45 year old was previously employed as an adult entertainer.

The Day of the Doctor to be Shown in Cinemas in 3D

The 50th Anniversary episode Doctor Who comes to your television/laptop screen on November 23rd, and by all accounts it's gonna be a right doozy.

(Take a deep breath) Somehow not content with being the anniversary show of one of Britain's longest running and most dearly held TV shows, and dissatisfied with being the first episode in the modern Doctor Who franchise to feature a team-up between the current Doctor and a past incarnation, AND finding the idea of starring screen legend John Hurt a bit on the underwhelming side, "Day of the Doctor" has gone and powered itself up one more level.

Anthony Hopkins sends fan letter to Bryan Cranston

Bryan Cranston has received the ultimate seal of approval for his award-winning role in US mega-hit Breaking Bad.

The star, who plays Chemistry teacher come badass drug lord Walter White, has received a fan letter from none other than Sir Anthony Hopkins.

In the letter, the actor tells of how he binged on the entire six seasons of the hit drama in just two weeks. He goes on to recognise the

Breaking Bad Spin-Off Series On Its Way

You love Saul Goodman right? Well he's getting his own spin-off! "Better Call Saul" will be a prequel to Breaking Bad, so no Walter White for you I'm afraid. It'll explore how Saul got to the point in his life where he was comfortable being the legal counsel to a murderous and slightly insane drugs baron.

Whatever Happened to Gladiators?

Contestant- rrrready! Gladiator- rrrready!”

Bet you haven’t heard that for a while, have you?

*Spoilers* Breaking Bad Season 5 Episode 13 review

Critical journalism always seems easier when what you're writing about is bad. As you can imagine, this makes reviewing arguably the greatest TV show of all time deceptively difficult. Perhaps then, the best way to explain the power of this, Season 5 Episode 13's To'Hajiille” is by telling you just how crushed, shocked and frustrated I felt when the screen finally turned to black.

IT Crowd Reboots for Final Episode

Dear sir/madam, I am writing to inform you of a special episode of the well-known TV series, The I...no, that's too formal.

Dear sir/madam, IT Crowd ...exclamation mark. IT crowd... exclamation mark. Watch it...exclamation mark. Looking forward to watching it too. All the best...

"Luther" Prequel Movie Could Be Coming in 2014

Despite not being cast as Batman or the new Doctor, Idris Elba still lives in our hearts and minds as first Stringer Bell from The Wire (which everyone tells you is brilliant and that you must watch it, and by God they're right) and more recently as tough cop with tough problems Luther in the BBC series of the same name.

12 Monkeys TV Series

Terry Gilliam's weird and wonderful time travel movie 12 Monkeys, originally starring Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis, is to be adapted to TV by purveyors of enormous monster animals SyFy.

David Brent: The Movie

The American version of hit UK comedy The Office only just finished this year after 9 seasons, but our original Office, created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, has been gone for 10 years now. Never the less, Gervais refuses to let his character of David Brent go dormant for too long.

His webseries; "Learn the Guitar with David Brent", has proven to be very popular with fans of "cringe" comedy, and I also bet he isn't oblivious to the money Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa is currently bringing in from the theatres. Gervais is already trying to wrangle a music contract for David Brent, who doesn't actually exist remember, off the back of "Learn the Guitar", and the next inevitable step for him is a full feature length mockumentary.

Rambo the TV Series

John Rambo returned from the Vietnam War a changed man, and he returned vengeance upon those he felt had wronged him, and later this year he'll return to your XBOX and PS3 in the form of Rambo: The Videogame, but soon he'll have to enter into unknown territory. Someone he has never been before.

Television.

Sylvester Stallone, star of the original movies (First Blood, Rambo: First Blood II and then just Rambo) will act as a creative consultant on the series, under development by Entertainment One and Nu Image (the company who does all the Expendables movies) but will absolutely not star. God no.

Stallone's reps spoke to the Hollywood Reporter on the subject of their client reprising his role, and they said, "While many movie actors have been crossing back and forth between film and television for years, Stallone has always been a big-screen kind of guy." So no Sly for you, television! Take your tiny screen and get the hell out!

The project is in very early development, and may shunt the timeline somewhat so that Rambo is a vet of the Iraq War rather than Vietnam, so that the series can be set in the present day without whoever plays Rambo having to be in their 60's.

While he won't star as Rambo again, Sylvester could possibly make a cameo appearance at some stage, although, "That would be an unexpected development." according to his people.

There's nothing about the series on Stallone's Twitter feed, and he's usually very vocal on there about what he's up to, as evidenced by last week's Bruce Willis Firing
